Document Description
Project partners, including the Butte Co. Fire Safe Council, Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve, Butte Co. Resource Conservation District, Sierra Nevada Conservancy, and local private landowners in the Forest Ranch community have designed a 1,500 acre fuel reduction and forest/woodland health improvement project in the Big Chico Creek watershed that ties into other planned and existing defensible fuel zone projects to protect the communities of Forest Ranch and Cohasset. The project would use a variety of techniques, including: mechanical and hand thinning, broadcast and pile burning; grazing; road maintenance, and herbicides to reduce fuel loads, improve access for safety personnel and improve forest/woodland health to prepare for climate change and catastrophic wildlife.
