This project will develop, test, and demonstration smart gas shutoff technology in existing residential and/or commercial buildings. The smart shutoff safety system will provide additional layers of protection during a hazardous event and the ability to terminate gas flows.

Reasons for Exemption
Categorical exemption section 15301 exempts projects consisting of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. This project is exempt under 15301: Existing Facilities, because it will develop, test, and demonstrate gas shutoff valves at existing residential and commercial buildings. Project activities involve operation and minor alteration of existing buildings with no expansion of existing or former use.
