Document Description
California State Parks is proposing to sanction the selective use of the pesticide Compound DRC-1339 Concentrate-Livestock, Nest & Fodder Depredations (DRC-1339), at Fort Ord Dunes State Park, Manresa State Beach, Marina State Beach, Monterey State Beach, Moss Landing State Beach, Salinas River State Beach, Sunset State Beach, and/or Zmudowski State Beach to aid in the removal of crows or ravens that prey on western snowy plover eggs or young. Employees of the U.S. Department of Agriculture will apply the DRC-1339 to egg baits at a bait station in one or more of these park units where crows or ravens have been identified as a current predator to western snowy plover nests or chicks. Bait station locations would be chosen based on their proximity to the plover breeding habitat and the observed crow or raven activity, with careful consideration of non-target species activity, public access and other product label restrictions. It is anticipated that DRC-1339 would be used at no more than 3 or 4 locations per year, and the number of ravens or crows removed from each use site would be under 10.
