Document Description
Install a fence and plant trees to protect and restore a portion of the Redwood Riparian zone along Limekiln Creek in Limekiln State Park to create a safer camping experience for park visitors and aid in vegetation restoration. Work will: • Use salvaged redwood rounds as fence post bases and construct approx. 500 linear feet of cedar split rail fencing without excavating for posts; • Attach one (1) interpretive sign and up to ten (10) regulatory signs (one (1) every 50 ft.) to the fence to covey to visitors how and why the fence protects the sensitive natural resources and makes the campsites safer; • Plant approx. sixty (60) coast redwood, cottonwood, willow or other native tree species in an approx. 2-acre area of previously disturbed land along the north terrace of Limekiln Creek; and • Use hand tools to scarify the soil of, and then cover with existing leaf litter, an approx. 4-acre protected area between the new fence and Limekiln Creek and to aid in the rehabilitation of user created trails. The area will not be planted, but will be allowed to rehabilitate naturally.
