Document Description
The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) approved the Removal Action Workplan (RAW) for the Decima Allen Elementary School (Project Site). The cleanup document, referred to as a RAW, summarized previous environmental investigations and concluded that excavation of soil was required to protect human health and the environment. The RAW addressed the impacts of chemicals of concern identified as lead and organochlorine pesticides (OCP) above DTSC’s risk screening levels for a school site. Implementation of the removal action consists of the following tasks: * Excavation of approximately 95 cubic yards of soil impacted by lead and OCP. * Temporary on-Site storage of excavated soil in covered bins for waste characterization and confirmation sampling before off-site transport. * Perimeter air monitoring and installation of fencing with dust screens to ensure fugitive dust emissions do not leave the Project Site. * Dust suppression activities include wetting soils during soil-disturbing activities and wetting equipment and buckets during excavation and loading.
