Document Description
Re-roof the Carriage House at Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park to protect and preserve the structure as well as the historic carriages stored inside the structure. Work will:
• Remove approximately 645 feet^2 of deteriorated wood shingle roofing and any deteriorated underlayment;
• Install new plywood underlayment;
• Install 50# roofing felt over underlayment;
• Install new copper flashing;
• Install approximately 645 feet^2 of in-kind, fire treated, wood shingles; and
• Repair or replace rain gutters as needed.

Reasons for Exemption
Project consists of the repair and maintenance of existing public or private structure involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels, the replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced and is included as "Reroofing" in the Department and Park's and Recreations list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR § 15300.4, and the preservation and conservation of historic resources in a manner consistent with the Secretary of Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, with Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring and Reconstructing Historic Buildings (1995), Weeks and Grimmer.
