The project consists of fuels reduction treatments, including tree thinning, prescribed fire, pruning, and shrub removal to reduce fuel loads, improve forest health and enhance carbon sequestration in the Mattole watershed . This includes a 102-mile shaded fuel break on Stansberry Ranch and a 148-acre shaded fuel break on Bureau of Land Management land. Large wood derived from fuel break treatments will be installed in salmonid streams to enhance in-stream habitat complexity.
