Document Description
This proposed project involves the replacement of the existing one lane suspension bridge over the North Fork American River with a new arch suspension bridge with two-lanes and increased weight capacity. Additionally, the existing Yankee Jims Road Bridge will be strengthened to facilitate construction and will then remain in place as a historic structure. The total project area encompasses approximately 133 acres, including approximately 7 miles of roadway improvements along Yankee Jims Road leading to the existing Yankee Jims Bridge. Roadway improvements include cut/fill locations and the repair/replacement of 14 culverts at 10 ephemeral drainage crossings. In addition, the project includes approximately 2.8 miles of habitat enhancement along Upper Shirttail Creek above Sugar Pine Reservoir. The Project will result in impacts to 28.17 acres of foothill yellow-legged frog (Rana boylii) (Northeast/Northern Sierra Clade) habitat including temporary impacts to 27.35 acres; the Project will permanently remove 0.82 acres of foothill yellow-legged frog habitat. The project is expected to result in incidental take of foothill yellow-legged frog, which is designated as a threatened species under the California Endangered Species Act. The ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
