Complete repairs to the St. John's Catholic Church in Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park to protect and preserve this historic resource In addition to replacing the roof on the church and adjacent Bell Tower, repairs will be made to the exterior of the building including siding, and sills and moulding around windows. Work will: • For general exterior repairs of the windowsills, molding and siding: repair where possible and if repair is not possible, replace materials with in-kind materials to meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. The historical appearance of the roof and building will not be changed . • For the roof replacement: o Remove the existing roofing material; o Repair/replace any dry rot found in roof framing and sheathing; o Install 4' x 8' x ½" CDX plywood sheathing; o Install 4' x 8' x ¼" DensDeck fiberglass reinforced gypsum roof board and secure with sheet metal plates and screws; o Install self adhesive ice and water shield barrier; o Install Cedar Breather underlayment; o Install new sugar pine shake secured with 10d galvanized nails, with a double starter course with 30' reveal to the weather; and o Install redwood strips along the perimeter of the roof to hide all roofing material but the sugar pine shakes.

Project consists of the replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced and is included as "Reroofing" in the Department of Parks and Recreation's list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR §15300.4, and projects limited to maintenance, repair, restoration, and preservation of historical resources in a manner consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring, and Reconstructing Historic Buildings (1995), Weeks and Grimmer.
