Document Description
The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) proposes to replace equipment that controls nitrogen oxide emissions from the Parnassus Heights Central Utility Plant (PCUP) with new equipment that would perform the same function, but use urea instead of large amounts of stored ammonia. Currently, ammonia used for this process is stored in an underground tank in a mechanical annex building (ammonia house) at the corner of Parnassus Avenue and Medical Center Way and then piped along Medical Center Way to the PCUP. The proposed project would replace the current system with a safer system and demolish the existing ammonia house. The project is an interim measure to meet regulatory requirements of the PCUP’s natural gas cogeneration facility more safely, until the facility can transition to either a non-carbon emitting or an all-electric power source over time.
