Document Description
The purpose of the project is to enhance and protect the Upper San Diego River through education, mapping and targeted removal of less than one acre of the invasive non-native plants Tamarisk ramossisima, Washintonia robusta, non-native broom species, and Arundo donax. Removing the small stands that together comprise less than one acre in size enhances the quality of habitat by reducing fire risk, increasing water availability to native species, providing better quality habitat to native species for nesting, cover and foraging, and reduces the risk of further spread within the catchment.

The El Capitan Reservoir catchment or, the Upper San Diego River Watershed is in the eastern central portion of San Diego County, bounded by the communities of Ramona and Lakeside to the west, Julian and Santa Ysabel to the north, and Descanso and Alpine to the south. Invasive removal will occur on San Diego River Park Foundation owned lands within the catchment.

Removal enhances and protects habitat for wildlife and plants and the project will be principally carried out with hand labor and n'oi mechanized equipment. Consistent with CEQA Title 14, Chapter 3 Article 19 Section 1. 5333
