EMERGENCY PERMIT FOR TREATMENT OF HAZARDOUS WASTES, LAWRENCE BERKELEY NATIONAL LABORATORY, EMERYVILLE, CALIFORNIA
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), pursuant to authority granted under California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Division 4.5, Chapter 20, Section 66270.61, has issued an Emergency Permit to LBNL (EPA ID# CAR000191841) to treat hazardous wastes through a controlled reaction with a chemical solution. Specifically, 0.525L 2,2-Dimethoxypropane, 15. 7L 1,4-Dioxane, 7L Diethyl Ether, 1 L Diisopropyl Ether, 6.8L Furfural, 0.1 L lsoprene, 0.05L Limonene, 22L Telrahydrofuran, 0.5L Tetrahydronaphthalene, 0.1 L Triethyl Orthoformate, 0.6L 3-Methyl-1-Butanol, 0.51 L Acrylic Acid, 0.35L Styrene, 250g 1-Hydroxybenzotriazole, 0.04L Trimethylsilyldiazomethane, 1 0g Trimethylsilyl Azide, 30g Ethyl Diazoacetate, 75g 2,4-Dinitrophenylhydrazine, 30g Diphenylphosphoryl Azide, 0.1L Diisobutylaluminum Hydride, 0.5L Perchloric Acid, 2g 2,2-Azobisisobutyronitrile, 25g 3- Chloroperoxybenzoic Acid, 50g Diazald (N-Methyl-N-Nitroso-PToluenesulfonamide), 200g Sodium Azide, peroxide forming materials, must be stabilized prior to transport to a permitted treatment, storage, and disposal facility.
The hazardous waste items are expired and are currently being stored on the LBNL located at 5885 Hollis Street, 4th Floor, Emeryville, CA 94608. DTSC has determined as a safety precaution to prevent an accident or severe injury, an Emergency Permit should be issued to chemically stabilize the hazardous waste prior to transportation off-site by Clean Harbors Environmental Service (CHES).
