Document Description
The project includes two potential courses of action, Option A and B, both involving demolition of the existing, city-owned Fire Station No. 9. Option A would replace the building with a temporary modular structure to accommodate the station crew while a new site for a permanent station is identified. Under Option B the site would remain undeveloped and available for a future civic use, and Fire Station No. 9 would continue to operate out of a temporary off-site location. The existing station may be eligible for designation as a Long Beach Historic Landmark. It has been closed since 2019 due to the recurrence of mold in the building. Due to the health risk presented by the mold, Fire Station No. 9 activities have been temporarily relocated offsite. As a result, response times in Fire Service Area No. 9 have increased by 16 percent on average, presenting public safety concerns in this area of the City. This document is the Final EIR for the project (not certified at this time).
