Document Description
The City of Fortuna is proposing to maintain and improve Newburg Park, an approximately 19.5-acre park located in the City of Fortuna. Existing facilities include sports fields, a playground, bathroom, kitchen, storage buildings, lighting, and trails. Proposed improvements at Newburg Park include improvements to landscaping, drainage, trail surface, signage, parking, and conversion of an existing soccer field to tennis and basketball courts with no increase in area or capacity. The Project will improve safety and access to recreational facilities located on the site, develop inclusive facilities, and renovate existing recreational amenities.

The Project is exempt from CEQA pursuant to a Class 1 categorical exemption (Section 15301 Existing Facilities}, which exempts the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency's determination. The project involves maintenance of existing park facilities and minor alteration by converting the use of one field from soccer to tennis and basketball. The purpose of the improvements are to increase safety and accessibility. No increase or expansion of the existing use of the Park is proposed. The project is in an area where all public services and facilities are available, is consistent with the General Plan, and is located in an area that is not environmen~ally sensitive.
