Document Description
Repair the 2017 storm-damaged Aptos Creek Fire Road in The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park to re-establish access for emergency vehicles. Work will: • Above the cut slope, remove nine (9) standing trees (10"-30" dbh) and scatter the trunks and slash; • Use a backhoe to excavate a 12' wide road bed at the top of the cut bank, extending into the hillside; • Cut back the slope to the maximum angle needed for slope stability; • Remove and/or move the excavated soil and use it to reshape the road bed; • Remove the existing rusted out culvert and replace with new a 18" metal culvert; and • Use native mulch and woody debris to rehabilitate all disturbed areas.

Project consists of the repair, maintenance or minor alteration of an existing public or private facilities or topographical features involving negligible or no expansion beyond current levels and is included as "Trails or road repairs" in the Department of Park and Recreation's list of exempt activities, in accordance with CCR § 15300.4; the replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced; and minor public or private alterations in the condition of land and/or vegetation which does not involve removal of healthy, mature scenic trees.
