Document Description
Make improvements to the existing Stagecoach Hill / Azalea Nature Trail in Humboldt Lagoons State Park to bring the trail into compliance with the California State Parks accessibility guidelines and associated legal mandates. Work will: • Excavate approx. 10 yards^3 of soil and use approx. 30 yards^3 of rock to construct approx. 465' of approx. 1' wide by approx. 1.5' high rock retaining walls to support the trail bed and contain trail surface material; • Remove and reroute approx. 4,800 feet^2 of existing trail to comply with the accessibility requirements; • Use hand crews and hand tools to decompact the removed trail alignment; • Use native seed/mulch to rehabilitate the removed trail alignment to appear no longer as a trail; • Excavate an approx. 20' x 20' x 1' area to construct one (1) concrete accessible parking space near the trailhead; • Excavate approx. 25' x 25' x 1' for a crosswalk and transition pavement to the trailhead; • At the trailhead, excavate one (1) 6" x 6" x 3' hole, install a post and attach one (1) 36" wide x 24" tall accessible trail information sign; and • Replace One (1) redwood bench located at an overlook area along the trail

Project consists of the maintenance and minor alteration of existing facilities involving no expansion of use beyond existing; the installation of small new structures; and minor public alterations in the condition of land and vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees; and is included as "modifications of existing facilities for disabled access", "installation of interpretive signing or panels" and "trail construction or realignment" in the Department of Parks and Recreation's list of exempt activities, in accordance with CCR § 15300.4.
