Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), using State and federal funding allocated for the State Highway Operation and Protection Program, is proposing to replace rock-fall fencing on State Route 70 in Plumas County at nine locations (post mile 36.81 - 36.82, 50.86 - 50.96, 51.93 - 52.05, 54.00 - 54.25, 56.58 - 56.65, 61.37 - 61.49, 61 .88 - 61.90, 61.95 - 61.99, and 62.44 - 62.49) and replace culverts at three locations (post mile 50.89, 61.87, and 61.97). In addition, rock-fall fencing would be replaced on SR 89 in Plumas County between post mile 25.14 and 25.18. The purpose of the project is to provide an efficient, easily maintained barrier that prevents rocks from reaching the traveled way, reduces worker exposure, and improves safety for the traveling public. The project is needed because the existing rock fences are difficult to maintain and are ineffective in their current condition.
