Document Description
Special Repair and Deferred Maintenance (SR/OM) projects will be conducted at various California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) prison facilities statewide as shown on the attached list. Projects involve a wide array of repairs and contract augmentations; some examples are backup emergency generator rental, underground storage tank (UST) soil investigation/remediation 1 UST/above ground storage tank (AST) repairs, and Brine Pond Closure and Reconstruction Project. These projects are necessary to maintain the CDCR prison facilities statewide and to ensure unimpeded operation and their public safety mission. All work will be performed within the already developed prison property. The projects are not located within environmentally sensitive areas, and none of the exceptions to this exemption are applicable.

This exemption allows for the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing or minor alteration of existing public structures, facilities, or mechanical equipment to meet current standards of public health and safety, that involve negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency's determination. These projects consist of minor alterations to existing structures and equipment and involve no expansion of us.e, This is one of a class of projects that the Secretary for Resources has found do not have a significant effect on the environment, and therefore is declared to be categorically exempt from the requirement for preparing an environmental document.
