Document Description
Reduce fuels and conduct vegetation modification and defensible space work in Bothe-Napa Valley State Park and Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park to reduce fire risk and address boundary tree hazards. Work will occur within the defensible space zone of 130 feet from structures, within a distance where an identified hazard tree threatens a structure, and where dead trees and woody flammable fuels increase fire risk. Work may be done by State Parks, or park neighbors (or their contractors) along the park boundary through issuance of Right of Entry Permits. Work will use hand or power tools to complete the following:
• Remove dead trees and live trees with poor vigor or structure;
• Thin remaining trees and shrubs;
• Remove ladder fuels by pruning the branches on trees and shrubs up to 10 feet above ground;
• Remove and/or pile burn all downed woody fuel greater than 1-inch diameter;
• Lop and scatter twigs less than 1-inch diameter;
• Remove dead organic matter and/or plant parts on, under, or in contact with any structures; and
• Cut grass to 4 inches high or less.
