Buena Vista Pumping Plant Waterline Repair
NOE - Notice of Exemption
Department of Water Resources
SJFD staff will remove and replace a 250-foot section of buried 4-inch waterline due to a break in the line. Pipe replacement will include mobilization of a backhoe to dig a 2' wide by 3' deep trench. The new section of pipe will be fused to the existing pipe, then reburied. Trenching will be within an existing dirt access road. The line supplies water to the fire suppression system at the Buena Vista Pumping Plant, which is integral to the function of the California Aqueduct. The beneficiaries of the project are water users in Southern California.

Reasons for Exemption
A break in the line causes an interruption of water to the fire suppression system, which results in improper operation of the Pumping Plant. This plant is critical infrastructure and integral to operation of the California Aqueduct. The aqueduct provides significant and important services to many Californians. This project is exempt because it involves emergency repair of critical infrastructure.
