- Document Description
- The 93-acre project will realign the channel and recontour the floodplain to provide enhanced aquatic habitat, floodplain habitat and floodplain connectivity. The project will use harvested gray pines for channel habitat features. Floodplain pond and seasonal wetland vegetation complexes will be constructed. Access roads, staging and fill areas will be created. Mature riparian trees and areas of continuous native vegetation will be avoided. The goal of the project is to restore wetland and riparian habitat damaged by mining and by flow and sediment load changes resulting from Whiskeytown Dam. A major goal of the project is to improve aquatic habitat for the benefit of threatened Chinook Salmon and Steelhead Trout. This project is an ongoing action listed in the National Marine Fishery Service Recovery Plan required under the Central Valley Project Improvement Act (Title 34 of Public Law 102-575, Section 3406.(b)(12)). The Project is undertaken by the United States Bureau of Reclamation and Bureau of Land Management.
