Document Description
The Plumas County Fire Safe Council proposes to implement the Mohawk Vista/C-Road Hazardous Fuel Reduction Project to reduce the volume of forest biomass as a wildfire mitigation measure for landowners in the communities of Mohawk Vista and C-Road. A portion of the work would occur within the State's right-of-way along the north side of SR 70 from post mile 68.75 to 69.78. Work would involve removing ladder fuels including brush and conifers up to 10" in diameter at breast height using mastication equipment.

Minor Alterations to Land, Section 15304 Caltrans has determined that the proposed work within the State right-of-way to be categorically exempt in accordance with Section 15304 (Minor Alterations to Land) Class 4 (i) - Minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not Involve rem.oval of healthy, mature, scenic ·trees except for forestry or agricultural purposes: Examples include fuel management activities within 30 feet of structures to reduce the volume of flammable vegetation, provided that the activities will not result in the taking of endangered, rare, or threatened plant or animal species or significant erosion and sedimentation of surface waters. This exemption shall apply to fuel management activities within 100 feet of a structure if the public agency having fire protection responsibility for the area has determined that 100 feet of fueI clearance is required due to extra hazardous fire conditions.
