Document Description
The proposed project consists of facility improvements to the existing Watsonville Facility building such as the ADA compliant unisex restroom with a shower and a washer/dryer room, exterior upgrades to existing parking and the design of new ADA parking stalls and accessibility upgrades to the path of travel. There will also be modifications to power, lighting and HVAC to suit the new spaces. The exterior parking upgrades include bollard and card reader installation of up to 6" deep, slurry seal AC pavement improvements, concrete installation of up to 12" deep and incorporation of accessibility signage that·may go up to 3" deep into the ground. The interior ADA compliant unisex restroom will include the demo of existing concrete slab to accommodate new plumbing fixtures and washer/extractor, installation of new interior walls, changed elevations to bathroom auxiliary units (soap dispenser, grab bar, etc) for ADA compliancy andrestroom signage.

Reasons for Exemption
This exemption allows for the operation, repair, maintenance or minor alteration of existing public structures and facilities including restoration or rehabilitation of deteriorated or damaged structures, facilities, or techanical equipment to meet current standards of public health and safety. The proposed project may also fall under Class 1 c, Section 15301 in that existing highways and streets, sidewalks, gutters, bicycle and pedestrian trails, and similar facilities (this includes road grading for the purpose of public safety), that involve negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency's determination. The State confirms that no exceptions apply which would preclude the use of an exemption for this project. ·
