Document Description
Modify the park entrance area, install an Automatic Payment Machine and add an additional inbound lane at the Entrance Station at Calaveras Big Trees State Park to increase parking availability and allow for easier self-pay for park visitors. This project will:
For the Automatic Pay Machine (APM):
• Excavate an approx. 6"W x 18"0 x 21 B'L trench from the Ranger's Office to the existing voice/data pedestal
located adjacent to the Park Entrance Station; Install an approx. 218' long 3" schedule 80 non-metallic conduit and backfill over conduit;
• From the voice/data pedestal, excavate a 6"W x 18"D x 85'L trench to the location of the new APM;
• Install two (2) 3" non-metallic schedule 80 conduits and backfill over conduits;
• At the new APM location, excavate a 2' x 2' x 1' hole, pour a concrete pad with concrete anchors and bring electrical and communication cables up through the center of the concrete pad: and
• Mount the APM to the anchors and install 5n steel protection bollards around the APM.
To widen the entrance station's incoming approach:
• Fell six (6) trees and remove the stumps with a stump grinder;
• Excavate to create an additional 4'W X 40'L asphalt inbound lane:
• Clear a 1,620 sq ft. area to provide 14 additional parking spaces;
• Install an 8" layer of aggregate base compacted to 80%; and
• Install a 3" thick overlay of asphalt concrete and restripe as needed.

Project consists of the repair, maintenance and minor alteration of existing public facilities, involving negligible expansion of use beyond current levels, the construction and location of limited numbers of new, small facilities or structures included as "Construction or installation of small parking lots" in the Department of Parks and Recreations list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR§ 15300.4; and minor alterations in the condition of land and/or vegetation which does not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees.
