The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is issuing a permit (Permit No. 2081 (a)-18-014-RP) to the San Diego Botanic Garden pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 2081 (a) for the following activities involving state-listed plant species: (1) Collection of voucher specimens; (2) Seed collection from wild populations for long-term conservation storage following Center for Plant Conservation guidelines; (3) Seed processing, viability testing, and related research; (4) Propagation of plants to produce seeds for long-term conservation storage; (5) Export of backup seed collections to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Laboratory for Genetic Resource Preservation; {6) Collection of seeds or cuttings for the living collection; and (7) Maintenance of plants in the living collections of the San Diego Botanic Garden's botanical exhibits.

Collected seed will be processed at the Horticulture Campus located at the San Diego Botanic Garden at 230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024. Collected seed for long-term storage will be sent to the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden at 1500 N. College Avenue, Claremont, CA 91711 or the Institute for Conservation Research Building at 15600 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido, CA 92027, with a backup accession sent to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Laboratory for Genetic Resource Preservation facility in Fort Collins, Colorado. Voucher specimens of state-listed plants will be stored at the San Diego Natural History Museum located at 1788 El Prado, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA 92101 or at the Institute for Conservation Research Building in Escondido. Project collection activities will take place at wild populations of state-listed plants in California.

Reasons for Exemption
he Project will facilitate the recovery of state-listed plant species by collecting information on populations via voucher specimen collection for storage in an herbarium. Conservation of state-listed plants will also be achieved through conservation seed collection for long-term storage and related research on seed viability. The Project may also involve propagation of plants for conservation purposes approved by CDFW. The permit issued by CDFW for the Project includes measures to ensure that existing populations of state-listed plants are not Impacted.
