Document Description
The purpose of this project is to improve pedestrian safety at two existing crosswalks. The crosswalks are used by children and community members to access St. Patrick Elementary School and Catholic Church. The project consists of installing rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) for crosswalks at the 7th Street intersections of Napa Avenue and Vallejo Avenue (Figure 3). At the 7th Street and Napa Avenue intersection, the existing crosswalk striping on 7th Street will be removed and relocated easterly to shorten the travel distance for pedestrians. At the 7th Street and Vallejo Avenue Intersection, a curb extension/bulb out will be installed along the southwest end of the crosswalk lo improve visibility of pedestrians. Curb ramps will be installed at both crosswalks to ensure Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. All improvements will be constructed within the existing right-of-way. The project will maintain the existing drainage pattern and will not create new impervious areas; Appropriate Best Management Practices (BMPs) will be implemented to protect storm drain inlets. No tree removal will be necessary. One lane will be open during construction activities. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.
