The project involves the acquisition of a 519-acre once active US Borax mine that will provide access to trails that cross the property. Conserving this land will serve to help to fill the largest gap in protected lands between the Mexican border and the California Central Coast, bridging a key wildlife corridor.

The project is an acquisition of open space including plant and animal habitat. It will forever preserve these resources and therefore is exempt under Class 25, Section 15325(a). The land includes APNs 3211-008-036 through -043, 3211-012-030 through -044, 3212-019-012, -013.
