Document Description
The proposed Project is limited to the removal and replacement of the Kent Avenue Bridge, over the Sutter Butte Irrigation Canal (Sutter Butte Canal). The current bridge is 28-feet wide and 42-feet long and is composed of four, 90-inch diameter corrugated metal pipes with headwalls. The replacement bridge will be constructed in approximately the same location where the roadway approaches widened to provide a tapered transition to the new structure. The new bridge will consist of reinforced concrete abutments supporting precast concrete voided slabs clear spanning the canal. The new structure will be approximately 33-feet wide, and 61-feet long. No supports will be placed within the canal. The new bridge construction will involve the placement of precast, prestressed concrete slabs with a cast in place concrete overlay. Clean rock slope protection will be placed as armoring along the abutments and the bank directly adjacent to the new bridge. The Project will result in impacts to 0.23-acres of Giant garter snake (Thamnophis gigas) including temporary impacts to 0.14-acres; the Project will permanently remove 0.09-acres of giant garter snake habitat. The Project is expected to result in incidental take of giant garter snake, which is designated as a threatened species under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA). The ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
