Document Description
The project consists of the removal of invasive Arundo donax along 5 miles of the Russian River to reduce fire risk to Fitch Mountain and Healdsburg in Sonoma County by cutting Arundo canes using chainsaws and hedge trimmers. Four to eight weeks after initial cutting, Arundo re-growth will be treated with an Imazapyr-based herbicide to kill re-growth without causing soil disturbance or erosion. The Arundo will be hauled to staging areas for chipping. The project includes RRK’s monitoring of the project area for ten years to address regrowth and new propagations. Written agreements are to be obtained with 178 property owners. RRK expects to engage at least 350 volunteers throughout the life of the project.
