Document Description
The Department of General Services proposes a photovoltaic (PV) carport system to be installed above an existing parking area located at Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Ironwood State Prison. The proposes project will include the construction of approximately 2.8 acres of single-story, 12-foot minimum PV carport canopies above existing parking areas. The canopies will support solar panels that will produce approximately 1.0 MW of energy. Additional project features include associated interconnection, power equipment and lighting. The proposed project is compliant with Title 19, California Code of Regulations (CCR), Public Safety State Fire Marshal Regulations. No existing fire lanes shall be impeded.

The project is Statutorily Exempt base on the following: A0 the project is the installation of a solar energy system at an existing parking lot; b) the project is located on an area which has designated as a parking lot for longer than 2 years; c) the project does not include an individual permit s[pursuant to Section 401 and 404 of the Federal Clean Water Act or waste discharge requirements pursuant to the Porter Cologne Water Quality Control Act; d) the project does not include an individual take permit for species protected under the federal Endangered Species Act of 1973 or the California Endangered Species Act, e) the project does not include a streambed alteration permit pursuant to Chapter 6 of Division 2 of the Fish and Game Code; f) the project does not include the removal of a tree required to be planted, maintained or protected pursuant to local, or federal requirements, and the project does not include the removal of a native tree over 25 years of age. The project will have temporary and negligible effect on resources in the area. The State confirms that no exceptions apply which would preclude the use of an exemption for this project.
