Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement (EPIMS-TRI12501-R1), pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1602, to the project Applicant, Ivan Katzarov The project consists of the direct replacement of three existing culverts conveying ephemeral tributaries of the Mad River. Culvert 1: An existing 18-inch diameter plastic culvert pipe is misaligned and insufficient to convey the flow of a 100- year flow event. The pipe will be removed and upgraded to a single 30-inch diameter corrugated metal pipe (CMP) set to proper grade and alignment with the stream channel. Accumulated sediment and debris will be excavated from the channel above the culvert for approximately 50 feet and regraded to match natural grade and contours. Instream woody debris and cobble delivery is substantial at this location. To prevent overloading and obstruction of the newly upgraded culvert, a debris catchment rack will be installed approximately ten feet upstream of the culvert inlet consisting of eight six-foot long, 2.5-inch diameter steel pipes spaced five feet apart and set three feet into the substrate. Accumulated debris will be removed by hand as necessary. The design and installation of the debris rack are in accordance with the Handbook for Rural Roads. Culvert 2: An existing 12-inch diameter plastic culvert pipe is undersized to convey the flow of a 100-year flow event. The culvert will be removed and replaced with an 18-inch diameter CMP on the same alignment and grade. Culvert 3: An existing 12-inch diameter plastic culvert pipe is undersized to convey the flow of a 100-year flow event. The culvert will be removed and replaced with an 18-inch diameter CMP on the same alignment and grade.
