Document Description
The Charitable Venture of Orange County (CVOC) will use community air grant funds to support logistical and technical assistance to expand community engagement focused on air quality monitoring to resident of Madison Park and the community corridor north and south. It will create a plan for community-based monitoring of air pollution and its effects. Grant funds will be used to increase awareness of environmental justice concerns in regards to air quality in the Madison Park community, and the AB 617 implementation process. The grant funds will develop a community-led air monitoring system in order to address negative health and environmental consequences of poor air quality. CVOC will initially hold bilingual informational forums in multiple neighborhoods in the community corridor, north and south of the Madison Park neighborhood. After this is completed, CVOC will form a steering committee with community residents and organizational partners. This steering committee will be responsible for developing a community air monitoring plan. Finally, 20 Dylos air quality monitors (utilized for PM10 and PM2.5) will be deployed in Madison Park neighborhood of Santa Ana, and in the community corridor, north and south of Madison Park. Dylos monitors are small air monitoring devices (approximately 7 in x w 4.5 x d 3 in, ranging in weight from 1.2-2.5ib) installed or mounted on walls, panels, or poles. Monitors will be deployed less than 0.5 mile apart and with each monitor covering an area of less than 0.2 square miles on average. Monitors will be located at schools, private residences, public parks, or private facilities. Deployment of air monitors and subsequent data analysis will be conducted under the guidance of academic partners and technical consultants.
