Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
15301a
Reasons for Exemption
Class 1 exemption consists of repair, maintenance, and alteration of interior, existing public structures and facilities involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that exists at the time of activity commencement. No adverse effects are expected with the proposed project. The State of Historic Preservation has determined the Resources Building not eligible for registration as a California Historic Landmark, but SHPO has determined it eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion A and C; meaning the Resources Building is locally significant within the context of the Capitol Area Master Plan and as an early example of the International Style of Modernism design where use of open interior spaces without definite fixed partitions and lack of ornamentation and design building elements are character defining features. Replacing office carpet in kind and painting office walls will have a de minimis effect on the determined eligibility status of the Resources Building.
