Document Description
The purpose of this project is to reroof the Mack Meadow Ranch Cabin. The current roof is leaking and rain water is damaging the building. The cabin and nearby ranch-related buildings and structures are potentially eligible for listing on the CA Register as a historic district. The cabin is one in a complex of ranch buildings dating from 1920. The current roof is temporarily protected with plastic sheeting to prevent further damage to the building. The roof is composed of rolled composition asphalt material applied over modern plywood sheeting supported by older wood lathing and rafters. It is unknown what the original roof color and material were, but wood shingles were found as part of the associated garage dating from the same construction period. It is proposed that the modern composition asphalt material roof and any rotted plywood by removed carefully to avoid damaging the lathing and rafters underneath. If damage is found under the roof to lathing and rafters this would be conservatively repaired to not compromise the building's historical integrity. The roof will be repaired and/or replaced according to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. The overall appearance of the buildin would not be altered.
