Document Description
The proposed project would replace the existing railing at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Pier. The new railing would be comprised of stainless steel posts and stainless steel horizontal cabling, with an Ipe top rail and alternating Ipe horizontal rails. The existing railings are being replaced due to ongoing maintenance and the new materials, which do not require future treatment or renewal, are anticipated to last the lifetime of the pier.

The SIO Scripps Pier Railing Replacement project is classified as exempt from the provisions of CEQA under section 15302 replacement or reconstruction. The project activities fall under class 2 b/c the project consists of replacement and reconstruction of an existing structure (pier railings) and the new pier railings will be located on the same site, and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure being replaced. In addition, none of the exceptions to the exemptions apply.
