Salmon Creek Bridge replacement Project

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to replace the Salmon Creek bridge on State Route 1 at post miles 42.4 through 42.3 in Mendocino County, California. The bridges need to be replaced because of the significant cost tp upgrade it to current standards and the need for ongoing and expensive future maintenance. Th existing bridge is fracture critical due to lack of redundancy of the steel deck truss in the main span. Additionally, the bridge rails and deck width do not meet current standards. The bridge does not meet the multi-model transportation needs of the community; provide for users of the California Coastal trail; or have adequate shoulders for bicyclists riding the Pacific Coast Bike Route. Additionally, the bridge does not allow for uninterruoted traffic movement in the event of vehicle breakdown or collision.
