Document Description
The project consists of the construction of approximately 2,650 feet of Class I multi-use trail along the top of the Sacramento River levee and the extension of the existing trail adjacent to the Sacramento River channel. The trail will be a 12-foot wide concrete path with 1-foot shoulders adjacent to the river and a 12-foot wide asphalt concrete path with 1-foot shoulders on top of the levee. Five trees will be removed from the vicinity of the trail adjacent to the river, including two Fremont cottonwoods, two valley oaks, and one black walnut. The project will not include any work within the wetted portion of the Sacramento River. A variety of construction equipment will be used including a backhoe, bar bender, chain saw, clam shovel, ground compactor, air compressor, concrete mixer truck, concrete pump truck, concrete saw, crane, dozer, drum mixer, excavator, flatbed truck, front end loader, generator, gradall, grader, jackhammer, mounted impact hammer, pavement scarifier, paver, pickup truck, pneumatic tools, pumps, roller, and scraper. The project is part of a larger overall project to create a safe, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)- compliant pedestrian/bicycle connection between two existing portions of the North River Walk Trail. In addition to the two Class I routes along the Sacramento River and the top of the levee, a “high-water route” along D Street, 3rd Street, and 2nd Street will be constructed. This route will be constructed outside of the levee.
