Turnipseed Basin Expansion Project

The District is in the process of acquiring an existing 320-acre walnut orchard (APN 338-090-010, -011) south of the existing Turnipseed Basin. Following removal of the orchard, the District will excavate approx 110,000 cy of material from the site to form the overall basin. The basin will be further divided into approx 15 cells to accommodate storage over a varying topography. The project will include a settling channel at the northeast corner and an overflow basin along its western edge. To supplement two existing wells on the site, the district may construct approx 4 new recovery wells; the project may also construct a network of monitoring wells. The basin will receive water from Lateral 115.8W which originates at a 72-in turnout on the Friant-Kern Canal, then extends west along Avenue 24 and beyond the project site.
