They Physics Condensed Matter Experimental (CME) Laboratory Renovations project would complete 3 lab renovations within the existing Physics Building located on the second floor and basement. The renovated lab area would be approx 5,000 gsf. The project location has previously been used for office, machine and welding shops, and other lab functions. The project includes a new air supply and exhaust system, new mechanical equipment on the roof, a new chilled water system, and a new helium recovery system.
This project qualifies as exempt under class 1 of CEQA. This exemption applies to the operation, repair, permitting, leasing, maintenance or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities or mechanical equipment, involving negligible or no expansion of an existing use. In addition, none of the exceptions for application of a categorical exemption apply to this project.
