Document Description
CDFW has executed Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreement No. 1600-2018-0166-R2, pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, Yuba County Water Agency. Project consists of excavating approx. 450 linear feet of a portion of the lower Yuba River channel adjacent to the Yuba County Water Agencies South Canal Diversion facility. The project will increase flow through the south channel of the river at this location throughout the summer and fall of 2018. The increased south channel flows will enhance water supply to CWA's South Canal Diversion and will enhance the ability of spring-run and fall-run Chinook salmon to migrate through the south channel to upstream spawning habitat. The proposed project includes: 1) mobilization, 2) constructing temporary access to the upstream gravel bar, 3) constructing a temporary road on the upstream gravel bar and directly in the south channel of the lower Yuba River to facilitate construction activities, 4) excavation and removal of river alluvium from south channel of the lower Yuba River to maintain the flow capacity, 5) spreading of excavated river alluvium on the adjacent gravel bar, 6) placement of large woody debris in the excavated channel to aid in fish passage, 7) maintenance, if needed, in 2018 and 2019 necessary to maintain enhanced flows in the south channel for water supply and fish passage, and 8) removal of all temporary fill and demobilization. Restoration of temporary project components will occur naturally by high winter flow events. All trees removed will be replaced at a 3:1 ratio onsite.
