Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Statutory Exemption
Type, Section or Code
S:15269(c)
Reasons for Exemption
Ecosystems and infrastructure in the Central Valley are immediately threatened by the swift expansion of known nutria distribution. Nutria have extremely high reproductive rates, and disperse unusually quickly. The timely eradication of this invasive, destructive species is urgent in order to avoid any further spread into CA waterways and habitats. Eradication will prevent habitat loss, soil erosion, increased sedimentation in waterways, damage to levees and infrastructure, impacts to agriculture, significant economic costs, and exacerbation of invasive plants.
