Document Description
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is proposing the use of a dedicated site for periodic broadcasting burning on an annual basis to support fire control training unfer live-fire conditions. The 170.5 acre training consists of four discrete burn areas and is located completely upon land under the control of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. This site is primarily occupied by exotic grasses, thistle, and non-native weedy plants. Firing activities would utilize various hand firing devices in the designated burn blocks. Routine fire control training activities would include mobile attack, hand tool use, and progressive hose lay operations while in a controlled environment. All burning will be performed according to the terms and conditions of a burn permit issued by the san Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District. The project is in an isolated area of eastern Madera County around Eastman lake on relatively flat topography. This area is surrounded by rolling grass covered terrain. The proposed treatment area is covered in native and nonnative annual grasses and other herbaceous vegetation. Present within area are isolated interior live oaks, blue oaks, cottonwoods, willows, and buckeyes.
