Document Description
The Tehama-Glenn Unit of CAL FIRE is proposing a Kitchen and Dining Facility Replacement project in eastern Tehama County, CA. The project will be located on the grounds of the Ishi Conservation Camp. The project will replace the kitchen/dining facility (2,000 sf) that was destroyed by fire on July 19, 2017 and will consist of the construction of a 5,000 sf kitchen/dining facility to include: furnishings for 100 seat dining area, fully equipped kitchen with baking and butchering capabilities, serving area, scullery with stainless steel furnishings, walk-in cooler, walk-in freezer, dry storage, janitorial storage room, inmate restroom, staff restroom, visitor restrooms, and electrical and mechanical ancillary rooms and equipment. Site development includes tree removal, potential relocation of existing refrigeration/freezer units, earthwork, paving, curb and gutters, sidewalks, lighting, storm water conveyance, and landscaping. Utilities include underground gas, electrical, telecommunications, sanitary sewer with external tank and pump system. The project will also include two soil borings within the footprint of the new structure for a geotechnical investigation. Borings will be to a depth of 50 ft below ground surface for sampling and will be backfilled. Soil disturbance will be less than one acre. Work is anticipated to last approx sixteen months. Work is planned to begin in July 2018.

This project fits under portions of two classes of exemptions to CEQA: Class 2 - replacement or reconstruction b and class 4 - minor alterations to land a, b and f. Field review by CAL FIRE staff confirmed that no exceptions apply which would preclude the use of a NOE for the proposed demolition/replacement of cement slab and metal building and digging/drilling of trenches/holes.
