Document Description
The project is designed to address fire risk within the wildland-urban interface and promote forest health. The forest in the project area is overstocked, which leads to poor forest health and increases the risk of high-intensity wildfire to the community of Butterfly Valley. The project would address threats to sensitive plant species by reducing forest density to mimic historic fire regimes, and by repairing damage to the existing Butterfly Dam, which would return the pond to its historic levels providing habitat for sensitive species that have adapted to the pond. Forest roads and trail densities are high in the project area; the project would include improvements to the forest roads to improve water quality and riparian and aquatic habitats.
