Document Description
The Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) would provide $459,792 to the Plumas National Forest for the continuation of the Little Grass Valley Watershed Protection Project. The treatments would improve watershed health, restore riparian/aquatic/wildlife habitats, maintain water quantity and quality for downstream users, and reduce the risk of wildfire to natural resources and nearby communities. The project is focused on removing excessive fuels on approximately 557 .2 acres of Forest Service Lands. Treatments include mastication, hand thinning and piling, and hand thinning and grapple piling. The project would geographically connect with the Bald Onion Defensible Fuel Profile Zones (DFPZ), the Sugarloaf DFPZ, and the dispersed defensible space and small-scale fuels reduction projects established by private landowners. SNC evaluated the project in an Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration. All mitigation measures specified in the Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration will be implemented through contractual obligations, which will be monitored and enforced by a supervising Registered Professional Forester. SNC has independently determined that with implementation of required mitigation measures, the project would not result in significant adverse environmental impacts.
