Document Description
The Sierra Nevada Conservancy would provide funding for the Little Grass Valley Reservoir Watershed Protection Project. The project would implement forest thinning to create 1,814 acres of defensible fuel profile zones along ridgetops and roadways to improve accessibility for firefighters and to provide strategic locations to initiate fire suppression activities while providing protection for communities at risk. The project is designed to fulfill the 1998 Herger-Feinstein Quincy Library Group Forest Recovery Act Pilot Project by maintaining and restoring healthy watersheds and habitats, while contributing to economic stability. DFPZs would retain many beneficial characteristics such as spacing between overstory tree crowns and reduced ladder fuels to aid in fighting fire and reducing fire intensity; designed to be effective for 10-15 years.
