Death Valley National Park - Stovepipe Wells, Use of Backup Potable Water Well and Tank at Stovepipe Wells

SWRCB as the lead agency will be issuing a water supply permit. The Death Valley National Park - Stovepipe Wells Potable Water System proposes to use a 300 ft. deep backup well (Well 2) for the potable water system for the Stovepipe Wells Resort and housing area in Death Valley National Park. Currently there is only one well to service potable water needs for the area. The well will be treated for total dissolved solids (TDS) at the existing reverse osmosis facility. Additionally, a new 120,000 gallon buried concrete reservoir will replace a 65,000 gallon tank. The new tank will be 29.5 ft. diameter and approx. 26.5 ft. in height with a 1.5 ft high foundation. Most of the physical structure of the water tank will be buried in the road prism a portion, however, there will be spill over into the undisturbed ground to the east and west of the road. The road will be realigned to go around the western side of the tank. An installation of 1,200 linear, feet of 8-inch water main at an approx. depth of 32 feet line will then be installed in the service road, along the eastern berm at a depth of 48 inches, and connected to the Stovepipe water system.
