In support of the North Sherwin Shoulders widening project, Caltrans will determine subsurface soil conditions for retaining walls through Geotechnical drilling. Two bore holes are expected in an existing dirt pullout, each approximately 4" in diameter.

Reasons for Exemption
Geotechnical borings will occur in an existing dirt pullout within the highway facility. The 4" bore holes constitute a minor alteration to the existing facility, with no expansion profits existing use. The shoulder widening project itself was approved in August 2018 with an MND/FONSI (SCH# 2018032066). Environmental resources were evaluated at the bore locations and no potentially-significant impacts are anticipated.
