Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement number 1600-2017-0477-R1, pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to California Department of Transportation. The Permittee (Caltrans) is planning to construct a new bridge on the exiting alignment of highway 44 over Hat Creek. The existing bridge will be removed and the new bridge constructed; during construction in traffic will be detoured onto a temporary bridge parallel to the existing bridge to allow construction to occur in one session. The new Hat Creek Bridge will be a single span deck bridge approximately 110 ft. long and 44 ft. wide.

Reasons for Exemption
The project consists of the replacement of the existing bridge with a new bridge in the same location. The bridge will be wider than the old bridge to allow for shoulders and pedestrian use, but will have the same number of traffic lanes (2) as the existing bridge. Therefore, there will be no expansion of capacity for highway vehicles.
