Bayside Academy serves both elementary (K-5) and middle school students (6-8). The campus does not have an indoor gym facility therefore the District is proposing to construct a new gym serving both students and potentially City of San Mateo recreational users through a lease agreement.

Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project would add a gymnasium facility to an existing school site (where there is none presently) and does not provide for in an increase in enrollment. The gym would be located in a space that is currently a turf field and paved area. The addition of a gymnasium would not increase the original student capacity of the Bayside Academy by more than 25% or 10 classrooms.
